Northern Film & Media (NFM) is a creative industry development agency based in Newcastle upon Tyne. We support the growth of region’s film, TV, digital media and music industries. We develop the North East’s creative industries by investing in talent and ideas.

Northern Film & Media is fund holder of the £2.4m Finance for Business – North East Creative Content Fund with Northstar Ventures. The co-investment fund was the first public-VC partnership in the creative industries outside of London and has been hailed by the CBI as a shining example of using public cash to ‘de-risk investment in the creative industries’. We support the region’s talent with a range of initiatives designed to connect North East talent with international markets.

The Federation of Small Businesses in the North East exists to promote and protect small and micro businesses helping them survive, grow and prosper. With approximately 4,300 small and micro businesses the FSB works to ensure that the voice of small businesses is listened to by Government nationally, regionally and locally. The FSB also offers protection for small and micro businesses through our membership offer including a 24/7 legal helpline; a 24/7 tax helpline and free business banking for life.

PRIME logo

The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise (PRIME) is the only national organisation dedicated to helping unemployed people over the age of 50 start and run their own businesses. PRIME was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in response to letters he was receiving from people desperate to work but unable to find anyone to employ them – because of their age. PRIME is a registered charity and a member of the Prince’s Charities group.

PRIME can offer free mentoring, workshops and business networking events. It can refer people to accredited advisers for free business advice and, in some parts of the country, can also offer free mentoring, ‘Will it Work’ grants to test business ideas, ‘how to guides’ and other services.

Bridge Club Ltd is an expert provider of contacts and connections.  Using a range of products such as "In Conversation With..." events format and bespoke "Little Black Book" consultancy services, they facilitate effective introductions for mutual gain. The company was established in 2000 by Caroline Theobald to support early stage growth businesses. It was designed to bridge the gap between all the stakeholders of the enterprise community:  entrepreneurs, finance, professional services, public sector support and established businesses.

The Bridge Club have introduced thousands of people to like-minded individuals and given them access to a wealth of contacts. 
Recent research showed that business-to-business connections that they have made for their clients were valued at £5.6million.  Whatever format their services take, they always make sure that their clients and guests leave their events feeling inspired and better connected.

The Business & IP Centre Newcastle

The Business & IP Centre Newcastle is designed to support entrepreneurs, inventors and small businesses from that first spark of inspiration to successfully launching and developing a business.  We are the first regional centre based on the British Library’s model and have been running since September 2011 since when we have seen over 1,600 entrepreneurs have using the Centre. The Business & IP Centre Newcastle is a partnership between Newcastle City Council, Newcastle Science City and the University of Northumbria; the Library is also a designated PATLIB UK centre, part of a Europe-wide network of patent information centres.

The Centre offers free access to business and intellectual property databases and publications, including general start-up advice, information on funding sources, market research, company data, business news and information on patents, trade marks, registered designs and copyright. Through a series of events, workshops and 1-1 coaching sessions, experts share their knowledge of business development and intellectual property all underpinned by high quality resources and staff support at the City Library. This builds upon Newcastle Science City’s proven track record in delivering high quality business-focussed events, and Newcastle City Council and Northumbria and Newcastle Universities’ commitment to enhancing services to business communities.  Anyone can use The Business & IP Centre Newcastle and Newcastle City Libraries, all you need is a membership card.
